Good exhibition booth design for an electronics show makes complex products easy to understand in a few seconds. That means clear zones for demos and meetings, lighting that shows small parts properly, screens that explain what the product does, and bilingual graphics for Chinese buyers. US brands also need to adapt their design to metric booth sizes and local venue rules before anything is built.
We design and build booths in China every year. This is how we’d plan an electronics booth from the start.
What Makes Exhibition Booth Design for Electronics Different
Most electronics products are small, technical and hard to judge from the aisle. A chip, a sensor or a power module looks like nothing from three meters away. Your booth has to do the explaining.
There’s also a mix of visitors. Engineers want to test things. Buyers want a quiet table. Distributors want catalogs and contact details. One open floor rarely serves all of them well.
So the design starts with how people will move and what they’ll do, not with colors.
The Zones Every Electronics Booth Needs
| Zone | What it’s for | Design notes |
| Hero product area | The first thing visitors see from the aisle | Raised plinth, strong spotlighting, one clear headline |
| Hands-on demo stations | Engineers testing products | Standing-height counters, hidden power, tethered devices |
| Screen or LED wall | Explaining what the product does | Short looping video, readable from the aisle |
| Meeting room or tables | Pricing and spec talks with buyers | Semi-closed, quieter, with a screen for slides |
| Reception counter | Greeting and lead capture | Near the main entrance, with badge scanning |
| Storage room | Stock, bags, spare devices | Lockable, with a power point for charging |
On a small booth, some zones merge. A 3m x 3m shell (about 10 ft x 10 ft) might only fit a demo counter, a screen and two stools. That’s fine. Just decide what matters most and give it the best spot.
Design Details That Make Tech Products Readable
Lighting for Small Products
General hall lighting is flat and bright. It washes out small parts. Use focused spotlights on hero products and backlit cases for components. Warm light suits lifestyle electronics. Cooler, crisper light suits industrial and B2B products.
Screens and Content
Screens are the strongest tool you have. Keep videos short and silent, with captions. Show the product in use, then the key spec. Put the most important message in the top third of the screen, where people can see it over the crowd.
Hidden Cabling
Nothing makes a tech booth look cheaper than loose cables. Plan raised flooring or cable channels inside counters from the first drawing. Your demo stations will need more outlets than you expect.
Bilingual Graphics
Most visitors at Chinese shows read Chinese first. Use English and Simplified Chinese on headline graphics and product cards. Have a native speaker check the translation. Machine translation on a giant wall is an easy way to lose trust.
Adapting a US Booth Design for a China Show
A design that worked at a US show won’t drop straight into a Chinese hall. Here’s what usually changes:
- Measurements: Booths are sold in square meters. Convert every drawing to metric early.
- Height limits: Each show sets its own limits in the exhibitor manual. Check them before the design is locked.
- Materials: Venues usually ask for fire-rated materials and paperwork to prove it.
- Build method: Building locally is often cheaper and faster than shipping a US booth. Keep the look, rebuild the structure.
- Approvals: Drawings go to the show’s official contractor for sign-off, so leave time for comments.
A custom exhibition stand design team based in China handles most of this without you needing to learn the rules yourself.
Trade Show Booth Displays That Work for Electronics
The display pieces you choose matter as much as the walls. These work well at electronics shows:
- Lockable acrylic cases for prototypes and small high-value parts
- Turntables that rotate a product under a spotlight
- Exploded-view displays that show what’s inside a device
- Touchscreens that let visitors browse specs and product ranges
- Live production or testing demos for manufacturing shows like productronica China
Pick two or three that suit your product. A booth crowded with every display type gets confusing fast.
What to Send Your Exhibition Booth Designers
The better your brief, the faster you’ll get a design you like. Send these with your first email:
- Show name, hall and booth number
- Booth size and open sides
- Products you’ll display, with sizes and power needs
- Your brand guidelines and logo files
- Your main goal: launch, lead generation or meeting existing buyers
- A rough budget range
Photos of past booths you liked, or didn’t like, help too.
How We Design Electronics Booths
Our design team works out of Shanghai with in-house fabrication, so what you approve in 3D is what gets built. We plan power, cabling, AV and security inside the design itself, rather than adding them at the end. We’ve worked with more than 1,000 exhibitors over 20+ years, and we handle venue approvals with the official contractor for you.
If you’re planning a booth for an electronics show in China, send us your brief. We’ll come back with a concept and a quote.
FAQs
How long does exhibition booth design take?
A first concept usually takes one to two weeks once the brief is in. Allow a few more rounds for changes and venue approval. Start at least four months before the show for a custom booth.
What booth size do electronics companies usually book in China?
It varies. Smaller firms often start with a 3m x 3m shell scheme booth. Brands launching products tend to book raw space of 36 square meters or more.
Do I need Chinese text on my booth?
Yes, for headline graphics and product information. Most visitors read Chinese first. Keep English alongside it for international buyers.
Can you reuse my US booth design?
Yes. We keep your look and rebuild the structure locally to meet Chinese venue rules. That’s usually cheaper than shipping a booth overseas.
How do I keep demo products safe at the show?
Use lockable cases, tethered demo units and a lockable storage room. Have a staff member assigned to the demo area at all times.
